Small Animal Services
At River Basin Veterinary Services, we do everything we can to make your pet’s trip to the vet as stress free as possible. In fact, most of our patients come in with their tails wagging, happy to be here! Our goal is to provide an efficient office visit by eliminating the receptionist and the waiting room. This means that while we are catching up with you on your pet’s recent history, your pet will be free to explore, meet our clinic dog Curlee, and play with the toys or lay on the bed we have available. Our intentions are to make each pet (and pet parent) feel comfortable during the visit. When it comes time for any pokes, your pet gets to stay with you to keep their stress as low as we can.
Wellness & Prevention
-
Dogs are susceptible to heartworm as well as other diseases carried by fleas and ticks. We recommend a monthly preventative, such as Nexgard or Nexgard Plus, to be given year round.
If your cat spends time outdoors, or if your cat lives with other household pets who spend time outdoors, we recommend a monthly flea and tick preventative such as Nexgard Combo or Frontline Plus.
-
We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach to medicine. Our team will evaluate your pet’s lifestyle and medical history to come up with a comprehensive vaccination plan that makes sense for you and your pet.
-
Acquiring a new puppy or kitten is exciting but can also be overwhelming! We recommend coming in with your new little one early so that we can perform an exam to evaluate their baseline health and then establish a deworming, vaccination, and flea & tick prevention schedule that is appropriate for their changing weight and age.
-
Annual wellness examination can help us catch disease early and keep your pet as healthy as possible as they age.

The AVMA recommends spaying or neutering cats by 5 months of age.
When it comes to dogs, there is no one-size-fits-all recommendation. We can help you decide when is best for your dog based on its breed, age, sex, personality, role (e.g. pet or working dog), home environment, and health status.
-
When a lump or bump on your pet becomes of concern, we can remove it and submit it for histopathology testing. If our diagnostics prior to removal make us suspicious of the mass type or worried that we will be unable to obtain "clean margins," we may instead refer you to a specialist for removal.
-
If your pet sustains a wound, we recommend that you schedule an appointment to have it assessed right away. If we are unable to fit your pet in that day, we may refer you to a nearby emergency practice if the wound severity necessitates same day treatment.
-
We offer consultations on orthopedic and all other major surgeries with referral options.
End of Life Care
-
Deciding when to say goodbye is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make as pet parents. We are here to help guide you during this transition, helping you understand what changes to look for in your pet that indicate it might be time.

"Like all vets I hated doing this, painless though it was, but to me there has always been a comfort in the knowledge that the last thing these helpless animals knew was the sound of a friendly voice and the touch of a gentle hand."
- James Herriot

We partner with a local company to offer individual pet cremation services, so that you can receive the ashes back. We will facilitate transportation for cremation, whether the euthanasia took place at our clinic or in your home.
